Hello! My name is Alevia and this is my first year at Green Mountain Montessori School!
As a young child in the Philadelphia suburbs and Delft, the Netherlands, I was a student at two Montessori schools. I fondly remember coloring in maps of the world, doing activities on carpets, and gently learning how to peel fruit. I am looking forward to working with children in an environment that was so integral to my early learning!
I have spent the past five years in Halifax, Nova Scotia, getting my undergraduate degree in economics and German at Dalhousie University. There, I researched behavioral economics, and wrote my honors thesis about female labor force participation rates. I also tried my best to emember German words for things like having-a-song-stuck-in-your-head-all-day (Ohrwurm).
I spent my college summers in Greensboro, Vermont working first as a counselor, then as head counselor, at Circus Smirkus Camp. There I learned how to juggle and walk across the wire (slo-o-o-w-ly), and experienced the joy of working with children, whether 4 years old or 18. While each age had its own charm, I particularly appreciated our youngest campers, who brought a refreshing energy and sense of positivity to the circus tents.
Iām excited to work with children in a Montessori setting, and I hope to create the kinds of experiences that I remember so well, and that shaped me.
