Hello! My name is Molly (Ms. Molly), I’m the new lead teacher at Green Mountain Montessori. I was born in Burlington, Vermont and grew up in Underhill with my parents and two older brothers. I graduated from Mt. Mansfield Union High School in 2004. I loved growing up in Underhill, spending my days hiking Mt. Mansfield, swimming in the stream behind our house and fly fishing with my dad. I spent seven summers at Brown Ledge Camp in Malletts Bay playing tennis, sailing, swimming and water skiing.
I lived in Burlington until my mid-twenties then decided to move cross-country to Portland, Oregon to live with my brothers. After a few years on the West Coast I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where I completed my Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences and received my Early Childhood Education teaching license from Tulane University. I love working with children, so while I completed my studies I nannied and babysat for multiple families across the city. In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, gardening, cooking, sailing, going to see live music and enjoying the outdoors.
In the summer of 2019 I decided to return home to be closer to my parents and found a wonderful teaching job at Burlington Children’s Space. We made the transition to virtual learning in March, 2020 due to COVID. For the past year I have been a nanny for a family in Shelburne, but my heart remained in the classroom. When my friend Jill mentioned she was leaving her position as lead teacher at Green Mountain Montessori, I asked for her blessing and applied for the job. Jill gave me a great reference and I was offered the position. I am very thankful to be returning to Montessori teaching and eager to meet my new students and families.
I believe that children are born with a natural curiosity about the world around them, and it is our job as educators to guide them through the learning process. As an educator, I know every student has a unique perspective on the world, and no two children learn in the same way. I believe if I can provide my students with the necessary resources to follow their inquisitive nature, helping to both guide them and allow them to make their own decisions, the outcome will be a well-rounded, independent, creative thinker. Through my teaching experience I’ve learned that small group lessons, the use of manipulatives to help aid in the learning process and the freedom for students to learn at their own pace creates an ideal learning environment for growing young minds. As a teacher I want to build a strong academic foundation for my students to grow upon. I am passionate about my student’s achievements and in developing a classroom culture of trust, respect and cultural competency.
I am very excited about the new school year and cannot wait to meet each of you! I hope you have a fantastic rest of the summer, and I’ll see you in August!
